Education Day

Thank you very much for your interest in the Education Day at ICN 2023. The Education Day will take place on 12th September 2023. The workshops listed below will be held, please click on the respective workshop for information on the contents. 

You can register for the Education Day and the workshops via the congress registration. Please note that the Education Day is only available for in-person participation and will not be streamed digitally.

Differentiating various demyelinating disorders by applying recent standards and state-of-the-art classifications.

The session will showcase the detection of viruses via novel techniques in electron miscroscopy as well as convey methods of applied electron microscopy in neuropathology. 

10:30-11:45 (room: Robert Koch, 5th floor, 90 seats)

The session will give an introduction to the new WHO classification for pituitary adenomas. In addition, case examples will be presented and clinical implementation will be discussed.

The session will cover recent advances in diagnosis of infectious myositis and autoimmune myositis. 

12:45-14:00 (room: Robert Koch, 5th floor, 90 seats) 

The session will cover relevant aspects of DNA & RNA Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and will present practical case examples.

14:15-15:30 (room: August Bier, 5th floor, 45 seats) 

The course is intended to provide participants with an understanding of the basic neuropathological features, diagnostic procedures, and current consensus criteria for neuropathological evaluation of the most common age-related neurodegenerative diseases, with focus on Alzheimer's disease, Lewy-body disorders and frontotemporal lobar degeneration.

This session will cover DNA methylation based profiling of brain tumors and implementation of various classifiers.

14:15-15:30 (room: August Bier, 5th floor, 45 seats) 

The aim of the session is to get to know and classify different neuroinfectious diseases on the basis of the morphological changes in connection with clinical symptoms, diagnostics and therapy. 

15:45-17:00 (room: Robert Koch, 5th floor, 90 seats)

This session will cover DNA methylation based profiling of tumors beyond brain tumors (e.g. hematological malignancies) and will also briefly introduce nanopore sequencing-based DNA methylation profiling.

15:45-17:00 (room: August Bier, 5th floor, 45 seats)

Demonstration of six comprehensive cases focusing on common problems in diagnostic myopathology. 

17:15-18:15 (room: Robert Koch, 5th floor, 90 seats) 

This session will give an update on diagostic aspects of prion diseases.
